Effects of Foods With Fiber on Erosive Heartburn

    • Tryptophan and carbohydrates both help the body produce serotonin, which is a natural pain reliever. Additionally, serotonin slows the release of acids into the stomach.

    • Eating whole wheat bread instead of white bread has been shown to reduce the recurrence of ulcers in patients who had recently healed duodenal ulcers. White bread contains 50 percent less tryptophan than wheat bread.

    • In addition to fiber, you can also try some herbs to help reduce your stress. Kava herb has been shown to reduce stress and, in so doing, acid indigestion. Licorice root helps to coat the intestinal tract and increase the life span of intestinal cells. Aloe vera inhibits the production of gastric acids. Ask your doctor for other suggestions.
