Information on Avianca Airlines

Avianca Airlines, based in Bogata, Columbia, has grown to become one of the largest passenger air carriers in the Americas. After suffering through many bankruptcies and reorganizations the airline emerged stronger than ever with an enhanced product and route system. Avianca, primarily flying to international destinations from Bogata, offers passengers some of the best amenities on the ground and in the air.

  1. VIP Lounges

    • Avianca provides its frequent fliers with VIP lounges placed at the airlines main international airports withing Columbia and abroad. Access to the lounge is granted depending upon your status within Avianca's frequent flier program, AviancaPlus. Current Gold, Platinum and Executive Platinum members may access and enjoy the lounges amenities and features with guests.

    InFlight Entertainment

    • Depending upon the aircraft type servicing the flight, Airbus or Boeing, Avianca offers a wide variety of entertainment. Each aircraft type offers movies and audio channels. Separately, the Boeing aircraft provides on board magazines and the Airbus aircraft offers video games, pre-recorded television programs, music videos and programming for children within seat back entertainment system.

    Business Class

    • Avianca takes great pride in its business class product, offering ergonomically designed seats with adjustable foot rests and 155 degree reclines. The Business Class menu has been professionally designed by chefs and nutritionists ensuring a delicious well-balanced meal. If the flight is departing or arriving in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, New York, Los Angeles, Madrid and Barcelona all business class passengers receive a high quality amenity kit featuring eye masks, hand lotion, lip balm and other items to enhance the experience.

    Tourist Class

    • Avianca refers to its economy class as "Tourist Class" offering passengers a wide variety of in-flight entertainment and menu options. Depending upon the flights length and departure time those passengers seated in Tourist Class will have the choice between two menu options that are complimented with pre-selected beverages and finished with an authentic Columbian desert. Special meals can be provided to those with health conditions as long as the request is noted when making the reservation.

    Baggage

    • Avianca allows all passengers one piece of carry-on baggage weighing no more than 22 lbs. Additionally, each passenger may carry-on a personal item such as a woman's purse, laptop bag, or briefcase at no charge. Avianca also abides by the United States 3-1-1 rule for carrying on liquids and gels into the cabin. As many liquids and gels in containers holding 3.4 oz. or less that can fit into a 1 quart sized plastic bag may be carried on the plane. As for checked baggage, those passengers seated in business class may check three bags free of charge and those seated in tourist class may check two bags. All bags must weigh 50 lbs. or less.
