What Are the Different Types of Security Guard Uniforms?
Security guard uniforms come in a number of different types depending on the need. Most people associate security with wearing military or police style uniforms, but that is not always the case. There are times when a more comfortable or subdued look is in order. There are varied types of uniforms that the security guard can wear to reflect a positive social setting.

Uniforms were created to show a visual difference of rank and privileges, mainly in the armed forces. By wearing a uniform, you received respect from other soldiers and return the favor back to them as well. These same uniforms were also helpful in identifying different warring armies on the battlefield. Today, there are uniforms for not only the armed forces, but for law enforcement, security, judges, businesses, physicians, technicians, athletic teams, students and inmates. Security uses uniforms to be easily identifiable and approachable, as well as being a visual deterrent to stop crime.
Military Uniform

This durable cotton fatigue set or jump suit with shoulder epaulets, is made with several pleated pockets for extra storage. Security patches are affixed to both sleeves, as well as a badge patch worn above the left breast pocket, and on the front of a combat cap. Military combat boots are worn with the pant legs bloused inside them. A nylon web belt is mandatory for this uniform, which supports all of the guards duty gear. This duty gear may consist of a handgun, taser, pepper spray, baton, handcuffs and radio.

The police type uniform normally has a military pleated shirt, that has sewn on shoulder epaulets, and two holes on the left breast to hold a security badge. Security patches would be affixed to both sleeves just below the shoulder. The pants are a formal nylon type pant, which may have a military stripe sewn along the side of it. The work shoes are shiny, black leather. A police leather duty belt might be issued with the same or similar items as the military web belt.
Formal Attire

In the hospitality industry, business attire is the required standard. A 3- or 4-piece suit is used worn in a formal atmosphere to show professionalism. This suit consists of a tailored shirt with tie, dress slacks and shoes, blazer and sometimes a vest. A less formal environment may require only a dress shirt, tie, slacks and dress shoes. A radio clips on easily to the dress belt, and a ear microphone can be added for hands-free operation. A badge can be added to either uniform by using a badge holder in the breast pocket or clipping it to the belt.
Casual Attire

For a more general environment such as small businesses, warehouses, manufacturing plants and gated communities casual attire is acceptable. Casual attire consists of a Polo shirt, cotton canvas pants and work shoes. The Polo shirt should have a sewn on badge patch or the company's logo over the left breast. A radio would be carried on the guards belt, and a clip on badge can also be added. In a casual but higher threat environment, the casual clothing can be substituted for similar tactical clothes. Tactical casual wear is highly durable and has added storage pockets. Lightweight tactical boots and web belt would be worn, along with a combat cap or jungle hat. If discreet service is required, a tactical cotton canvas vest can be worn concealing a handgun and other less than lethal weapons.
