What Is Cetaphil?

Cetaphil is a line of liquid cleansers, cleansing bars and moisturizers that are formulated to purge the skin of dirt and impurities without drying. Dermatologists created Cetaphil products with every skin type in mind, including the most sensitive. Cetaphil is so gentle that Galderma Laboratories, the manufacturer of Cetaphil, has been awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

  1. Cleansers

    • There are two types of Cetaphil cleansers and which one to use is a matter of personal preference. Cetaphil.com lists two types of liquid cleanser: daily and gentle. For those that prefer a traditional bar soap, Cetaphil offers an antibacterial cleansing bar and a gentle cleansing bar. All of the cleansers in the Cetaphil product line can be used on the face and the body.

    Moisturizers

    • The Cetaphil product line contains five different moisturizers, and one sunscreen that are all designed to quench every inch of your body. Cetaphil sunscreen has UVA and UVB protection and an SPF rating of 50. There is also a moisturizer specially formulated for facial skin that has sunscreen with an SPF rating of 15 and contains Parsol 1789, which offers the added protection of blocking out more of the sun's damaging rays. Cetaphil also manufactures a moisturizing lotion and cream for the entire body, and Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion, which is designed to soothe even the driest of skin.

    Non-Comedogenic

    • All Cetaphil products are non-comedogenic. According to Skin Care Guide.com, non-comedogenic means that the product line has been tested and found suitable for people with oily skin. The products are often tested on humans with the particular skin type, or on the flesh of laboratory animals. Non-comedogenic products are proven to cause less skin breakouts such as black and white head pimples.

    Fragrance Free

    • Skin products that contain heavy perfumes may be appealing to the senses, but can be irritating to sensitive skin. For this reason Cetaphil products are fragrance-free. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a product that is labeled "fragrance free" is completely void of any perceived odors. But the manufacturer is permitted to use raw materials to mask odors that may be considered offensive.

    The Club

    • Galdera Laboratories has organized a unique club for the dedicated users of Cetaphil products. Mycetaphil.com offers skin care tips, advice and discounts on Cetaphil products. Cetaphil also offers a "skin care assessment tool" that is easy to use and designed for Cetaphil users of every age and gender. There is even a new "kid's skin care corner."
