Jobs Available With an Associate of Arts Degree
An associate degree is a two-year degree that can be used to acquire many skilled professional jobs in certain fields of specialization. Associate degrees are less expensive to obtain than bachelor's degrees because they don't take as long to complete and require fewer curricula hours. Though four-year colleges do confer associate degrees, it is financially optimal to attend a community or junior college instead.

Types of Associate of Arts Degrees
-
Associate of Arts degrees are conferred in everything from general studies to fine arts, applied arts and the humanities. Most of these degrees are referred to as "liberal arts" studies, a catch-all phrase for any degree that opens its doors to many different areas of concentration rather than one specific area. The salaries for these jobs vary, but it has been stated that a person with an associate degree will earn, on average, close to $500,000 more in a lifetime than a person with a high school diploma (about $8,000 more per year). This is non-statistical information, as the latest information shows that a four-year degree is worth more like $300,000; way off from the estimated $1 million more that a person with a bachelor's degree was expected to earn in a lifetime (See Resources).
Basic Curricula for Degree
-
The basic curricula for all Associate of Arts degrees will include classes in English, math, science, humanities, social studies and psychology. There will also be specific curricula designed for the attainment of the area of specialization in the degree. Most of these degrees require between 60 and 95 credit hours to complete, depending on the chosen field of endeavor. Most people who pursue a two-year degree are either laying a foundation to up their job leverage while not committing to a four-year degree, do not plan to pursue further education, or are getting the groundwork done to prepare to obtain a four-year degree later.
