Phentamine for Weight Loss

Phentamine, properly spelled Phentermine, is a stimulant. It is similar to an amphetamine and is used for weight loss as an appetite suppressant. The brand names of Phentamine include Ionamin and Adipex-P. It must be prescribed by a medical doctor. It comes in two oral forms including tablets and capsules. When using Phentamine for weight loss, patients will also be required to develop a healthy diet and regular exercise program and perhaps undergo behavior modification.

  1. Indications

    • Phentamine is intended for weight loss. It's meant for those who are willing to change their lifestyle so they can lose the necessary weight and keep it off permanently. It can only be used for a few weeks and is not intended for long-term use. It's also meant for those who are obese and not for those seeking to lose just a few pounds. People using Phentamine must also commit to changes including a healthy and balanced diet and a regular exercise program.

    Dosage

    • Phenatamine comes in three different strengths: 15, 30 and 37.5 milligrams. A doctor will determine the correct dosage, which will suppress the appetite and lead to weight loss by working on the brain.

    Side Effects

    • When used for weight loss, common side effects of Phentamine include itching, anxiousness or nervousness, constipation or diarrhea, dizziness, headache, tremors, odd taste in mouth, dry mouth and difficulty sleeping. Serious side effects on Phentamine include rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, swelling, confusion, light-headedness, chest pain, restlessness, unusual behavior or thoughts, uneven or fast heartbeat, extremely high blood pressure, ringing in the ears, anxiety, blurred vision, seizures and severe headaches. In some people, an allergic reaction can occur.

    Drug Interactions

    • Those taking certain medications may not be able to take Phentamine. Diabetics taking oral anti-diabetic medications or insulin, blood pressure medication or antidepressants might not be able to take this drug.

    Medical Conditions

    • Those with certain medical conditions will not be able to take Phentamine for weight loss. These include alcohol or drug abuse, high blood pressure, heart disease, glaucoma, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). Those with other medical conditions will need to talk to their doctors before taking Phentamine. Included are seizure disorders such as epilepsy, thyroid disorders, diabetes or anxiety disorders. Those who are pregnant or nursing should not use Phentamine.
