Where to Get Eyelashes Dyed

Eyelash tint is a a form of permanent makeup that lasts until the eyelashes grow out. It is similar to permanent hair color, but has a lower level of peroxide that is formulated to not irritate or damage the eye. Here are some tips on where to get your eyelashes dyed and the eyelash tinting procedure. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Tint Mixture

    • Eyelash tint is a color that is applied to the eyelashes to simulate the look of mascara. The product itself is a mixture of dye and a three percent hydrogen peroxide solution. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against the use of eyelash dye, since it can cause serious eye injury or allergic reaction.

    Testing

    • No matter where you apply your eyelash dye, for best results do a test area before tinting all of your lashes to test for allergies to the product. Apply a small amount of mixture to a few lashes on the outside of the eye using an applicator brush. Put product only on the ends of the lash and avoid any contact with the eyelid. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Check for redness and swelling. If any burning or redness occurs during this process, remove immediately with soap and water. If you suffer any allergic reaction, do not apply product.

    Home

    • You can dye your eyelashes at home if you choose. Eyelash tinting kits are available online or in beauty supply stores. They come in clear, silver, brown and black and are applied with a brush that comes in the kit.To apply, remove all makeup with makeup remover or soap and water. Be sure the lashes are clean and dry before application. If eye guards are provided with the at-home kit, place them below and around the eyes to protect the skin from tint. If you do not have eye guards, apply a thin layer of skin cream or lotion around the base of the eye and upper lid to protect the skin from staining. Be sure to avoid getting any lotion on the eyelashes. Apply the eyelash dye by brushing it on, using the applicator brush/wand, from the base of the lash to the tip. Avoid getting too close to the skin so you do not stain the area around your eyes. Remove any excess with a Q-tip. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes and then remove with a cotton swab, and warm water. Wash your eyes gently after removal with soap and water to remove any residue.

    Salon

    • Beauty salons, nail salons and estheticians' offices might offer eyelash tinting services. Generally, if a salon offers spa-type services they will also dye eyelashes. For instance, Zasa Salon Day Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers eyelash tinting for $30. Prices vary depending of the salon, and they may have limited colors.

    Beauty School

    • Some beauty schools offer eyelash dye services, and it may be less expensive than having it performed in a salon. For instance, the Art and Science Institute of Cosmetology and Massage Therapy beauty school in Fairmont, West Virginia, offers eyelash tinting services for $15. Beauty services in beauty schools are done by senior students and supervised by instructors. Sometimes services are performed by the instructors as well.
