Magnetic Water Treatment

Water treatment is a process used to make water cleaner and more suitable for many end uses. The objective of all water treatments is to remove contaminants in the water or reduce them to the extent that it becomes suitable for various uses. Magnetic water treatment is a method of water softening wherein a magnetic field has an effect on the structure of water molecules or the properties of water. This kind of natural water treatment eliminates the need for chemical softening agents.

  1. Hard Water

    • A large quantity of dissolved minerals, specifically magnesium and calcium, tend to make water "hard." While this is not a health hazard, it is still an inconvenience. Hard water causes mineral buildup in water pipes and heating systems and is also a problem when using soap and detergents. It becomes necessary therefore to treat this hard water so that its mineral content is minimized and the aforementioned inconveniences are resolved.

    Significnace

    • In times past, there was just one system to treat hard water and that was with water softeners. However, in recent years, various alternative methods have become prevalent including water filters, softeners, electromagnetic water conditioners and reverse osmosis. Among these, the most interesting is electromagnetic water conditioning.

    Magnetic Treatment

    • Magnetic water conditioners work by altering the crystallization behavior of calcium and magnesium ions in such a manner that they lose their ability to cause adhesive scale. These are far less expensive to install and operate and the running costs are also negligible. There are many benefits to magnetic water conditioners as the water retains the useful properties of soft water. This treatment also eliminates lime-scale formation on pipes. Plus, clothes washed in such water retain their softness and last longer.

    Function

    • Magnetic water treatment uses a series of strong magnetic fields in a computer-designed configuration, which causes an electron excitation to occur in the water. This causes the calcium crystals to precipitate in a low-density "snowflake-like" form, which is unlike the hard "limestone-like" form that is usually seen in pipes and on other surfaces.

    Effects

    • As water passes through the magnetic field, it is charged. This charge causes the calcium to be retained in the solution rather than plating on surfaces. The odor and taste of sulfur is reduced in most magnetic water treatments and nothing is taken away or added to the water during the process. This treatment enhances the efficacy and operation of most water softeners and also eliminates the buildup of scale, which is such a critical problem in homes and industries today.
