These can slip over the ankle or wrap around the ankle fully. These braces also can be worn directly around the skin, and they fit inside most shoes.

    Considerations Before Purchasing a Brace

    • Although ankle braces have many benefits and can be helpful under certain circumstances, if there is any question as to whether your injury is serious and may need medical attention, it is best to see a doctor first. Sometimes people think they can diagnose themselves and decide what type of treatment their ankle needs, but sometimes the ankle can be fractured and mistaken for a pull, twist or sprain.

    Misconceptions of Ankle Braces

    • People who are into sports and are more apt to acquire sports injuries may think that if they wear an ankle brace or support, they are clear of getting any injuries. This is not true, however. Although wearing extra support will help prevent injuries, it does not mean that all injuries can, and will be, avoided. If you are already dealing with an ankle injury, despite wearing a brace, care should be taken while playing sports to not overdo it. More damage can be done even while wearing an ankle brace.
