About the Blackberry

BlackBerry is the name of a line of smartphones developed by electronics development company Research in Motion (RIM). These phones debuted in 1999, and were at first limited to two-way radio functionality. The business-friendly model we know today premiered in 2002. It has been a fixture in the mobile world ever since.

    Function

  1. BlackBerry phones are all-in-one communications devices. Modern models can handle regular phone calls, e-mails, text messages and Internet browsing. These phones are designed to keep even the busiest on-the-go professional in touch. BlackBerry phones also have gotten into the more casual smartphone market, and have introduced specialized "apps" that allow users to access social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and use popular multimedia websites like Pandora.
  2. Features

  3. The BlackBerry smartphone line has plenty of unique features that keep users faithful to the device. The feature that generally puts the BlackBerry device above other smartphones is its robust email system, which can manage multiple clients as well as Exchange servers. BlackBerry devices also have a unique calendar and push notification system that is both useful and user-friendly.
  4. Benefits

  5. The biggest benefit of having a BlackBerry-branded smartphone is the very versatile email client. Though most modern smartphones can handle web-based clients, the BlackBerry software has long been a leader in corporate and Exchange-based email hosts. Another benefit is the BlackBerry hardware. While touchscreen keyboards appeal to a certain demographic, if you need the tactile feedback of a physical keyboard, you can't do much better than the BlackBerry line of smartphones. Though the touch-intensive Storm model does not have a physical keyboard, all other models feature robust and easy to use keyboards that have been lauded for their physical feel and sturdiness.
  6. Competition

  7. The BlackBerry's biggest competition comes from Apple's iPhone, which boasts a unique touch interface and robust browser system. Competition has also come from the Palm line of smartphones, which boast greater processing power and the ability to run more than one application at a time.
  8. Potential

  9. The BlackBerry line of smartphones, though it faces steep competition from smartphone makers like Apple and Palm, shows no signs of slowing down. As the market evolved to incorporate features like touch screen and 3G capability, BlackBerry phones have followed suit.
