Canker Sore Peroxide Treatment
Canker sores are very painful ulcers in the mouth. These open sores are caused as a result of a break in the mucous membrane. Some people are plagued with recurring or multiple canker sores. There is some evidence that canker sores have a genetic link. While there are a number of remedies for canker sores, the peroxide treatment is most effective for many people.

Features
-
The features of a canker sore are impossible to miss. An ulcer (normally about the side of the head of a tack) develops in the mouth or the upper throat. The sore is very painful and can persist for over a week if not treated in an appropriate manner. Canker sores oftentimes recur with regularity. If the condition is particularly persistent, it is deemed to be Sutton's Disease.
Preparing Remedy
-
Preparing a peroxide remedy to resolve a canker sore is easy. You do not want to use the peroxide at full strength. Using peroxide at full strength orally can be unpleasant, causing a burning sensation. Mix a solution that is 50 percent peroxide and 50 percent water. This strength level of the peroxide is sufficient to treat a canker sore.

Use of Remedy
-
Using a clean cotton swab, dab the peroxide solution directly onto the canker sore. Make sure that you do not swallow the peroxide mixture. While it will not cause you any serious harm in small amounts, peroxide can cause an upset stomach. Repeat this process several times throughout the course of the day.
Effects
-
By using this peroxide treatment, you will start to see improvement in your canker sore within a 24 hour period. The pain will start to lessen and the ulcer will start to heal. Peroxide works to lower the bacteria level in your mouth, which is the primary cause for the canker sore. By lowering the level of bacteria, you will provide the ulcer the opportunity to heal.
Prevention/Solution
-
While there is no known cure for canker sores, and there is no definitive way to prevent an outbreak in the future, you can lessen the chance for a re-occurrence. You lower the chance for another canker sore by using the peroxide treatment. At least once a day, make a 50 percent water/50 percent peroxide mixture. Use this preparation as a mouth wash, making sure to avoid swallowing the peroxide treatment. This process will work to maintain a healthy level of bacteria in the mouth and is useful in decreasing the odds for an outbreak of new canker sores.
