Microsoft Word Training Courses
MS Word 2003 and 2007 training courses are offered online for free at the Microsoft Office Online Web site. The online training classes are called "roadmaps," and specialize in teaching users of Microsoft products how to get the most and most efficient use from these processing systems. These training modules are not timed and are self-paced, meaning the student can go over them and do practice modules as long as needed in order to learn.

Word 2003
-
Word 2003 offers courses such as how to type, save, edit, format, track various changes, protect documents, add borders and graphics, and create tables, headers, footers and tables of content. Word training also shows users how to create outlines, do mail merges and use XML schemas that allow Word processed data to be used in more than one software program type without being re-typed each time. These courses are offered in a format outlining Goals, Course Text, and what to do Before you Begin in a series of lessons, practice sessions, short tests, and reference cards to take away after the course is done.
Word 2007
-
In addition to all of the above word processing needs, Word 2007 training modules offers downloadable PowerPoint presentations, Live Webcasts and Podcasts for individuals as well as corporate trainers to use for group learning sessions. The courses are formatted to be user-friendly whether in a home office, small business, group or government settings.

Templates
-
Microsoft has a variety of free templates that can also be used for different activities and word processing duties. These templates are usually formatted to help cut down on the time and thought that it takes to produce needed documents each time from scratch. Though these templates do not come with "instructions," per se, they do contain basic information that can be manipulated to work with each user's goals or directives that need to be implemented. They typically do not require detailed or step-by-step training in order to be of use, but are handy in teaching users how to handle different aspects of the Word processing software.
Certification Courses
-
Many online and brick-and-mortar computer training schools offer Word training courses and expert or professional certification, such as NetCom Information Technology, Penn Foster, National Business Services Alliance, DeVry University and Keller Graduate School of Management.
Webcast and Podcast Training
-
MS Word experts have recorded live training events which can be viewed under self-guided direction. The Webcasts typically last about an hour and are multi-media friendly (includes slides and audio). The URL-friendly links make offline viewing possible and do not require the use of additional peripherals or add-ons in order to view. Podcasts are typically mini-training versions that last up to ten minutes. Youtube also carries many training videos that have audio and visual training elements that walk users through the features and elements of Word.
