Why Sports Are Good for Your Body


Playing sports is an activity that can last from the first few years of life to the last, and its benefits are far-reaching and many. Almost every aspect of life can be bettered by regular physical exercise in the form of sports, from day-to-day mood to performance at work.

  • Obviously, one of the primary ways sports benefit a person is through their bodily health. The physical activity associated with sports helps to keep a body in shape, burning fat and providing muscle tone. In addition, sports can lower the risk of some diseases, such as diabetes or breast cancer. Finally, playing sports can help people to age well and in the healthiest manner possible.

Emotional Benefits

  • The exercise involved in playing sports releases endorphins in the brain, which can produce a calm and peaceful feeling. In addition, sports can aid in healthy sleep, help with depression or low self-esteem, and provide a regular sense of accomplishment.

Mental Stimulus

  • Sports playing also stimulates the mind, since oftentimes certain sports will require you to develop a careful strategy to win. This ability to think quickly extends to other areas of life, especially for children, who tend to do better academically when involved in a sport.

The Social Arts

  • Sports help children by developing leaders and stressing the importance of teamwork. Sports can teach cooperation amongst peers and prepare a children for the constant ups and downs of life by exposing them to a stream of successes and failures, wins and losses.

In a business setting, understanding loyalty and teamwork is key, as is understanding one's specific role, or position, on a team. Adults, too, need to respect their teammates and understand succeeding and failing. Finally, sports can help to foster a sense of self-confidence which comes in handy in a business.
