Syndrome X Weight Loss

Syndrome X (also known as metabolic disorder) is a name given to individuals struggling with a specific set of markers that suggest insulin resistance. These symptoms are found primarily in people who have eaten a high processed carbohydrate and high sugar diet. Weight loss for people with syndrome X is difficult, but possible.

  1. Symptoms

    • One symptom of this condition is excess body fat. This fat is often distributed around the middle and in the neck and face. Another symptom is a craving for carbohydrates in the form of sweets and white breads, pastas and potatoes. Some other signs of syndrome X are high blood pressure, mental fuzziness, lack of energy, skin tags in the neck or armpits and a bloated sensation after eating.

    Other Symptoms

    • People with syndrome X often get infections easily. This is because their immune systems are compromised with this condition. Another interesting symptom that many people have is a diagonal crease on the ear lobe.

    Weight Loss

    • Cutting back on calories may help some, but with syndrome X the type of food that is consumed is just as important as the caloric content. The first step that needs to be taken is to eliminate or reduce high glycemic index foods. High glycemic foods include sweet desserts, white rice, potatoes, processed foods and white breads.

    More Weight Loss Options

    • Exercise as close to daily as you can, even if just for 30 minutes. Eat foods that have minimal saturated fats and trans fatty acids. Choose organic as much as possible to avoid chemicals that contribute to syndrome X. Consume high-fiber foods with whole grains. Take a daily multivitamin to assist in getting vitamins, minerals and nutrients that you may miss in your diet.

    Outlook

    • It may take work and significant lifestyle changes, but weight loss is possible with syndrome X. There are also naturopathic suggestions that may assist, so checking in your library, online or with a naturopathic physician for guidance specific to your situation.
