About Fimo

Fimo is used by creative people for seemingly limitless crafts. Once the clay has hardened, it can be drilled, painted or cut. It has a durable finish that holds up to normal stress. Fimo is sold at craft stores, hobby and art stores. This is a product that almost any age can enjoy.

Identification

Fimo is polymer clay that was invented by Eberhard Faber. It is easily molded and shaped, non-toxic and virtually odorless. It is available in a wide assortment of colors, including clear. Clear Fimo can be added to existing colors to make new shades. Once molded, you harden it by baking it in an oven at low temperatures.

Function

Fimo is firm when it comes from the package. Before it can be used, it needs to be softened or conditioned. To soften, break off a quarter of the block, gently turn the piece over and over in your hands. This will take five to seven minutes, depending on the warmth of your hands. You can also lay the clay on a covered hot water bottle. When the clay has been conditioned, roll it into a ball and set in on your work area. Use your palm to roll back and forth creating a pencil shape. Fimo will crack if it needs more conditioning.

Storage

To store unused Fimo, you wrap it in aluminum foil and put it into a resealable plastic bag. Every color should be wrapped separately. If it is sealed properly, Fimo will keep for several months.

Solution

Fimo could become dry or crumbly if not stored properly or if it becomes too warm while handling. Fimo Mix Quick is designed to recondition the clay and make it soft and workable. A small amount of Mix Quick kneaded into the clay and some gentle turning and stretching will quickly transform Fimo to a pliable condition. If Fimo becomes sticky, it should be allowed to rest on a cold surface for 10 minutes or place in the refrigerator for a few minutes.

Warning

Do not warm Fimo in the oven or microwave, the clay will start to harden and will be unusable. Do not place Fimo in the sun to warm before using, the clay will start to harden and will not be usable. Fimo will attract dirt, dust and pet hair so work in a clean area.
