Topicort, medically known as desoximetasone, is available by prescription only. It is recommended for the topical treatment of skin irritations. The cream is made up of corticosteroids, primarily synthetic steroids, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-itch agents. It is important to note that Topicort should only be used on the condition for which it was prescribed. Do not use on future problem areas unless told to do so by your doctor.
Topicort may be prescribed for a variety of skin conditions, according to RxList.com. These include eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, allergic reactions or rash. The ingredients in Topicort can reduce or inhibit the swelling, itching and redness produced by these conditions. It may also be used for purposes other than those listed if prescribed by a doctor.
First, wash and dry your hands. You should also clean and dry the affected area. Then apply the film to the affected skin areas twice daily and rub in gently, Topicort.com explains. The area should not be bandaged or covered after application. However, if your doctor gives different instructions, follow those instead.
Store Topicort at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F. Do not store in the bathroom.
You may experience burning, itching, irritation or dryness where Topicort is applied. It should subside in a few days, but if it persists or worsens, tell a doctor. You should notify a doctor immediately if you experience vision problems, persistent headache, increased thirst or urination, unusual weight loss, unusual weakness or dizziness. Also, you should consult your doctor before breast feeding while using Topicort, as it is not known if the drug passes into breast milk.
Avoid contact with your eyes when using Topicort. Do not use the medication on future skin problems, and do not use it for longer than prescribed. Do not it use on your face, groin or underarms unless approved by your doctor. Topicort should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits clearly outweigh the potential harm to the unborn baby. Consult your doctor before using. Use extreme caution when applying Topicort to children. They may be more sensitive to steroid use.
