What Is CCAPP?
The file or process CCAPP is short for Common Client Application and is used as part of the the Norton Anti-Virus software suite. The file ccapp.exe is responsible for many auto-protect features as well as scanning and checking email messages. This file is needed for Norton Anti-Virus to run properly on an installed computer system.

The purpose of the CCAPP process is to perform real-time scans on all email attachments that are downloaded to the system. The process is also used for real-time scanning for Trojan horse files, viruses and worms that try to download onto a system.

In addition to scanning email attachments, it also scans files that are downloaded by an Internet browser while surfing the Internet. If a malicious file is found, an alert window will appear with information about the infection and the actions that were taken by Norton.

When Norton Anti-Virus is installed, files for the program can be located in different directories on the system. The CCAPP file is normally located in a folder called Symantec Shared. This folder can be found in the Common Files folder, which is located in the Program Files folder that can be accessed from the Local Disk (C:).
Problems

One common problem that can occur is that the process fails to load at start-up, and as a result real-time protection is not enabled.
