Home Remedies for Cystic Pimples

Acne is more than a nuisance. It can dramatically affect your life, causing you to lose self-esteem and feel inadequate. It can also be quite painful and difficult to hide when in public situations. This is especially the case with cystic pimples. Cystic pimples are hard nodules that develop on the face, neck, back or arms that are rooted deeply into the skin. They often last for quite some time and can leave deep scars behind. That's why it's important to treat cystic pimples immediately and thoroughly to prevent scarring and to prevent recurrence. If you find you can't make it to the dermatologist immediately, there are a few home remedies you can try.

Baking Soda

While it should not be used in excess, baking soda is an effective facial scrub for exfoliating the skin. Mix a small amount of baking soda with water and gently rub into damp skin. Then, rinse with warm water. Take care not to rub too hard on cystic pimples, as this can just irritate them further and lengthen healing.

Oatmeal Mask

Oatmeal is great for the skin and is an effective way to treat cystic acne at home. Mix oatmeal with warm water until it forms a paste. Then, apply it to the skin and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Your skin should feel tighter as the mask dries. Then, rinse off the mask and pat your face dry. Oatmeal works by pulling impurities out of the skin. It also conditions the skin, leaving it very smooth.

Citrus Juice

The juice from oranges, lemons and other citrus fruits can help clear up acne. Just squeeze an orange or a lemon to extract the juice. Then, apply it to the affected area and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Wash off the juice with warm water. Repeat once a day for optimum results.

Aloe Vera

When treating cystic pimples at home, you must also take into account the possibility of scarring. To help prevent scarring and to heal red spots from previous breakouts, apply aloe vera to the affected areas nightly. You should notice the gradual fading of existing red marks and the smoothing of any scars and current cysts.

Gentle Cleansing

One of the easiest ways to manage and treat cystic pimples is to simply make sure you wash your face with a gentle cleanser each day. Look for facial soaps that contain salacylic acid for medicated treatment that's both effective and gentle on acne-prone skin.
