Advantix works on five pests rather than just one or two, and it's very easy to apply to the dog for long-term protection.

Description

K9 Advantix is a product sold by Bayer Health Care's Animal Division to control pests such as fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. It is a topical treatment, meaning that a small amount of Advantix is applied to the dog's body. Its main active ingredients are permethrin and imidacloprid, which work synergistically to affect the nerve cells of pests.

Function

K9 Advantix repels and kills fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, and it also kills lice and repels flies that might bite the dog. It acts by disabling, paralyzing and killing the pests. Ticks are not able to attach themselves to the dog, and fleas, mosquitos and flies are prevented from biting. It is fatal to chewing lice.

Use

K9 Advantix is sold in packets that contain a dose appropriate for your dog's size. It is applied to the dog's shoulder blades and down its back. You part the hair in three or four appropriate spots and squeeze the Advantix onto the animal's exposed skin. Even though it is applied to limited areas, the dog's normal movements will spread the Advantix to the rest of its body for full protection.

Time Frame

When it is applied properly, K9 Advantix will protect the dog for a full month. At that point, it should be reapplied in the same way for another month of protection. Bayer recommends that Advantix should be used all year for maximum effectiveness.

Warning

K9 Advantix is formulated for use on dogs only, and it should never be applied to cats. Bayer warns that it could be dangerous to felines because their physiology is different than a dog's and they are not able to metabolize certain compounds found in products designed for use on canines.
