About Peachtree

Peachtree is an accounting software provider that has similar offerings as its main competitor QuickBooks. Peachtree has been around for over thirty years and has provided accounting and financial software services to both small businesses and larger corporations. Popular products include Peachtree Pro, Peachtree Managed Payroll and Peachtree Quantum.

  1. History

    • Peachtree was founded in 1979 and the company's first notable deal was when its accounting software was bundled on the original IBM PC back in 1981. It was not until 1991 that the company would release a version of its accounting software for Windows. In 1999, the company was sold to the Sage Group, the software's current owner. Since Peachtree was acquired by Sage, the company has added payroll services and check printing to its inventory of products.

    Accounting Programs

    • The main source of the company's revenue is from its line of accounting software products. Peachtree Pro, Complete, Premium and Quantum have features that allow businesses to better manage their accounts payable and accounts receivable. The Pro and Complete versions are geared towards smaller operations while Premium and Complete are more suitable for larger corporations.

    Features

    • The features of the accounting software include the ability to print checks, manage bill payments and create purchase orders. An accounts receivable department will have access to sales orders, tracking payments and creating invoices. Additional features include budget charts, business analytics, account register and integration with MS Office products. QuickBooks users can convert information into Peachtree.

    Payroll Software

    • The payroll software available through Peachtree comes in three different versions: Simple Payroll, Select Payroll and Managed Payroll. Through these applications users can pay employees via a desktop or online as well as calculate deductions. The payroll software for Peachtree allows for e-filing of taxes as well as W-2 form delivery.

    Considerations

    • One of the main drawbacks of Peachtree software programs is that very limited technical support is available for free. To access its support team, users pay an annual fee along with the price of the software program.
