Endermologie Treatment for Cellulite
Having originated in France in the late 1970s, endermologie is a noninvasive, machine-assisted form of massage that aids in reducing the appearance of cellulite. Endermologie treatments for cellulite often take place at a dermatologist or plastic surgeon's office or in a spa. Does this Spark an idea?

History of Endermologie Treatment
-
After an auto accident, endermologie inventor Louis Paul Guitay experienced a high level of scarring that interfered with his muscle tissue. At the time, the treatment to soften tissue and rebuild muscle tone was repeated massage sessions that lasted three to four hours per day. Frustrated with the time consuming and inconsistent treatments, Guitay designed the endermologie treatment.
Though endermologie treatments were designed for physical therapy benefits, patients who used Guitay's treatment also saw an improved texture of the skin that had been treated, along with a more contoured body shape.
As a direct result, endermologie treatments for cellulite were marketed, creating the popularity of the service today. Endermologie is the only FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction of cellulite.
How Endermologie Treatments for Cellulite Work
-
During an endermologie treatment for cellulite, a massage machine with two rollers and a gentle suction are rolled over the body. As they go over the body, the rollers fold the top-most layer of fat into the rollers, stretching the connective tissue of the area.
Stretching the connective tissue causes forced trauma to the fat cells. As the fat cells rebuild, they are redistributed throughout the body, creating an improved contour and shape.
Though the roller massage and suction is strong enough to penetrate the top layer of fat in the body, it is not strong enough to cause damage to the skin, bones or muscles. -
Things to Consider
-
To achieve results, more than one endermologie session is needed. A study from Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Austin, Texas, reports that results were seen after seven endermologie treatments, but ideal results were achieved after 14 treatments.
The FDA states that endermologie treatments provide temporary results only and ongoing treatments are required for long-term results.
Misconceptions
-
One of the common misconceptions of endermologie treatments is that it is a noninvasive form of liposuction. While liposuction is invasive, it does remove cellulite from the body. Endermologie, on the other hand, redistributes the cellulite, but does not remove it from the body.
Time Frame
-
Endermologie treatments take about 30 minutes in the practitioner's office. Initial visits require one or two sessions per week for approximately 14 weeks. After optimal results have been achieved, one visit per month is required for maintenance.
