Havana Climate & Weather

The capital city of Havana, Cuba, boasts a tropical climate throughout the year, but knowing the weather patterns, seasonal idiosyncrasies, average precipitation and best time to visit will make your trip that much more enjoyable.

  1. Climate

    • Tropical, moist and breezy sum up Havana's climate throughout the year. With its glistening turquoise Caribbean waters and peaceful trade winds blowing in from the east, it's no wonder that Havana hosts such tropical weather. Temperatures typically range from 65 to 88 degrees, with an average high of 83 and average low of 70.

    Weather

    • Havana's weather patterns mimic those of most Caribbean nations, with two distinct seasons: wet and dry. Although precipitation is nearly constant throughout the year, Havana's weather patterns are controlled by the trade winds and Caribbean weather patterns, thus creating the seasons.

    Wet Season

    • The wet season, or summer, runs from May to October, with the brunt of the rain falling in June and October, when it averages about 7.2 inches each month. Average precipitation totals for the entire rainy period is about 5.3 inches per month.

    Dry Season

    • The dry season, or winter, runs from November to April. On average, monthly precipitation totals do not exceed 2.4 inches, and cooling trade winds make Havana very comfortable.

    Climate and Weather Precautions

    • Though Havana's temperate climate is nearly perfect it does produce its share of thunderstorms and, occasionally, a hurricane. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from the beginning of June until the end of November, and Cuba is situated right in its strike zone, so it's best for locals and tourists to always be prepared.
