    • New Zealand is part of the British Commonwealth, although it is an independent country. It has a population of about 4 million people. Many of the people who live there now are British descendants. The first settlers of New Zealand were the Maori over 1,000 years ago. One of the things that New Zealand is known for is its kiwi fruit.

    Climate

    • New Zealand is subtropical in weather. That means the warmest months to travel to New Zealand are December through February. The coldest months to travel are June through August. The weather is known to change very quickly, though, so pack both warm and cooler clothes during your stay. It also tends to rain a lot, so bring a raincoat or umbrella.

    Currency

    • New Zealand's monetary currency is the New Zealand dollar. New Zealand coins have the values of 10, 20 and 50 cents. Plus there are $1 and $2 coins. New Zealand notes are $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100. You can exchange your foreign currency at Bureau de Change kiosks, at a few hotels and at banks. Banks are usually open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can find the exchange currency rate at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

    Entertainment

    • There are a lot of fun things to do and see in New Zealand. You can enjoy New Zealand's wonderful local restaurants, go to the theater, shop at quaint shops and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can explore the North and South Islands. There is history and culture to enjoy, like going to the city of Kerikeri in the Northland Region, which has the oldest standing European building in New Zealand. There are lakes to fish on, ocean scenery to look at, parks to walk through, mountains to climb and even volcanoes to look at. New Zealand has everything from oceans to swim in to snowy mountains to ski on. It is a great place to travel.

    Accommodations

    • There are plenty of options for accommodations while visiting New Zealand. Of course, you can find hotels to stay in. There are international chains like the Hyatt Regency Auckland and local hotels in the area. There are places for individuals who like to backpack like youth hostels and lodges. You can rent a home depending on how long you want to stay. You can even go camping or park a motor home in a Holiday Park like Matakhoe Top 10 Holiday Park in Dargaville, which is in the Northland Region. There are accommodations for every type of person and budget.
