Mystic Tan is a fast, simple way to get a dark tan in mere minutes. The Mystic Tan name is synonymous with self-tanning across the globe. Lifelong tanners appreciate the gorgeous, dark pigment they receive without the harmful effects of the sun, and those who tan for special events appreciate the quick, easy approach to a look that will gradually fade away. After preparing skin at home, simply slip into the patented Mystic Tan booth, which gently sprays self-tanning solution all over the body. The bronzer shows right away and the faux tan further develops after a few hours.

    Active Ingredient

  1. Mystic Tan provides a dark tan thanks to the active ingredient that is found in all self-tanning solutions, DHA (dihydroxyacetone). DHA is FDA-approved and works with the skin to produce a dark pigment, leaving behind a "stain" that eventually fades from the skin. Because DHA works with dead skin on the surface, it is important to thoroughly prepare for any Mystic Tan session to ensure an even color all over the body.
  2. Preparation

  3. At home, prepare skin either the day before or a few hours prior to the Mystic Tan session. The body should be rid of all dead skin that sits at the surface; exfoliating with a loofah is the best way to slough off any roughness. This will leave behind a smooth surface, and allow the self-tanning solution to develop evenly without a patchy finish.
  4. Time Frame

  5. The process of stepping into the booth and being doused in self-tanner takes around three minutes, and any prep work should take no longer than 20 minutes. Expect Mystic Tan to last anywhere from four to seven days. Moisturizing the skin regularly with a lightweight lotion will prolong the life of the tan.
  6. History

  7. Mystic Tan was developed in 1998 and quickly spread to become the craze in sunless tanning. People like the fact that a machine sprays them, leaving little room for error, and usually results in a fabulous, even tan. Prior to this, self-tanners were on the rise, but they were intended for home use, which can be messy to work with and also quite difficult for a person to apply to themselves. Mystic Tan is offered in certified tanning salons in twelve countries. It has since launched at-home sunless tanning systems that promise the same stellar results as its self-tanning booths. These are spray-on sunless tanners that mimic the results one achieves in a Mystic Tan booth and are sold through The Home Shopping Network and beauty specialty stores like Sephora.
  8. Warning

  9. While there are no scientific studies proving harmful effects of Mystic Tan, doctors do recommend you refrain from inhaling the self-tanning solution as it is sprayed. This process takes around 30 seconds each time the solution is applied, so taking a deep breath should stop you from inhaling the self-tanner fumes.
