About CNA Classes

A CNA is a certified nursing assistant, someone who assists nurses in a hospital or nursing home. Classes are offered to train a CNA candidate and certify them in this field. The classes are mandatory in most states in order to get a license; in all states, a license to obtain a job in this field is a requirement. The classes can be taken at a variety of institutions.

Where to Take Them

CNA classes are usually held at a community college or a medical training center. The college or training center is focused on providing the coursework and training hours needed to complete the state requirements and pass the test to obtain the license. Taking Classes Online

Online classes are offered to train potential candidates for the licensing exam. These classes will provide coursework, reading material and help you pass the CNA exam in your state. They do not always provide the physical training aspect, which is a requirement in some states. Nursing Schools

This is an excellent option for someone who eventually wants to become a nurse, but does not have time to complete a full nursing degree.

Time Frame

A typical CNA class can last anywhere from one day (fast track skills sessions) to several months. The programs that simply prepare you to take the exam typically last about eight weeks, but may be longer. The programs that offer hands-on training last several months; test preparation lasts 16 weeks or more. If you are seeking an associates degree and a CNA license, expect to go to class for 12 to 18 months. CNA classes that offer skills preparation teach all the hands-on skills in a single day. These classes are to be used along with an exam training course, but give you real-life skills to be used on the job.
