Parts of a Scooter

Your scooter needs to be well maintained, and to keep it well maintained you need to be able to provide it with the proper parts. Some parts are universal to all scooters, but some are not. Make sure you purchase the correct part for your scooter by checking the specifications online or with your local scooter retailer.

  1. Air Filter Intake Tubes

    • The air filter intake tube will feed your combustion engine the all-important oxygen it needs to work properly. If your intake tube is dirty or cracked, your engine will not be getting the kind of power it normally would. Intake tubes are specific according to the size of the engine you have.

    Air Filter Outlet Tube

    • Just as important as the air intake is the air outlet. Without this, your engine will become congested and stall out, or worse. Liken it to breathing in and breathing out--if you could only breathe in and not breathe out, you would eventually suffocate. So will your engine. Keep your outlet tube free of cracks and tears as well.

    Batteries

    • There are two types of batteries for scooters. The first kind is a wet battery. Wet batteries have acid inside them as part of their charging mechanism. The second kind of battery is referred to as dry. Dry batteries do not have acid inside them for their charging process. Most scooter batteries are 12 volts.

    Spark Plugs

    • The spark plug is very important to the running of your scooter engine. They are how the internal combustion engine fires. You must be very specific on what kinds of spark plugs will work with your engine, because four stroke spark plugs will not work with two stroke engines and vice versa.

    Brakes

    • Brakes are probably the most important part of your scooter. You need to find the correct brakes to go with your scooter's wheels and what type will match up with your engine size. The larger engine a lot of times will need a higher grade of brakes to stop the scooter.
