Malic acid is a medication used to clean and prepare the surface of a tooth before it receives a filling. Side effects of using malic acid include chest pain, itching, swollen skin, skin irritation, redness, nausea, constipation, muscle pain, numbness and a tingling sensation at the site of application. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using this medication, they only affect a small number of users.
Severe Side Effects

Unfortunately, there are also a number of severe side effects associated with using this medication. Some of these side effects include allergic reaction, tightness of the chest, difficulty breathing, skin rash, closing of the throat, hives and swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue and throat. These side effects are also very rare and do not affect a large number of users.
