Toothache Treatments
A toothache can be brutal. When a tooth is throbbing in pain, it is hard to concentrate on anything else. It is also often difficult to get to the dentist for immediate help. But you don't have to suffer while you're waiting for your dental appointment. You can use a number of home or easily obtainable toothache treatments to help quell the pain.

Garlic
-
Using garlic to treat a toothache is one tasty way to get some relief. Those suffering from toothache pain can try chewing one peeled clove of garlic every morning and placing another directly on the affected tooth. Add a bit of rock salt to the clove that will be covering the painful tooth. This method is said to lessen the pain and sometimes make it go away completely.
Onion
-
Onion is full of bactericidal qualities that make it the perfect method for curing a toothache. Similar to the garlic method, folks can eat one raw onion every morning, making sure to chew it thoroughly to unleash its germ-killing qualities. A sliver of onion can be placed over the painful tooth and gum area. Chewing a piece of raw onion for as few as three minutes is said to kill all the germs in the mouth.

Pepper
-
Pepper can be mixed with salt or cloves to help with toothaches. Mix a small pinch of pepper powder with 1/4 tsp. salt and rub it in and around the affected area. This helps relieve the pain and make the tooth less sensitive. Mix a small pinch of pepper powder with clove oil and rub it on the tooth for another method of toothache relief. If you happen to be out of pepper, clove oil alone can also help ease the pain.
Lime and Wheatgrass
-
The juices of both a fresh lime and pulverized wheatgrass work for alleviating toothache pain. Both can be swished around in the mouth as a mouthwash for benefits that go beyond the toothache. Lime helps stave off tooth decay, tooth loosening and bleeding gums. Wheatgrass, which can also be chewed for a beneficial affect, sucks toxins out of the gums for a healthier mouth.
Other
-
Other remedies include a bark, a spice and an over-the-counter topical medication. Bay berry bark can be pulverized into a paste, mixed with a dash of vinegar and applied directly to the painful tooth. The spice asafetida, commonly used in Indian dishes, can be pestled, mixed with a bit of lemon juice and heated for 30 seconds in the microwave before it is applied to the tooth. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and place it on the cavity. Anbesol, a medication sold as an ointment or gel, has been used for years to alleviate toothaches, mouth soreness from braces and babies' teething pain.
