About Glutathione

Glutathione is a type of tripeptide that is produced within the human liver. It is a natural substance that has antioxidant properties, and it can help with detoxification and boosting the immune system. Because of those facts, glutathione is a highly popular nutritional supplement. It is also a popularly used treatment option for an array of illnesses. Glutathione is a tiny protein that consists of three different amino acids, which are glyceine, glutamic acid and cysteine.

  1. Types

    • There are two different types of glutathione. One type is a monomer (often known as reduced glutathione) that is a single protein molecule. This is the active glutathione. The other glutathione is a dimmer (often known as oxidized glutathione) that is composed of two separate molecules attached together.

    Antioxidant

    • Glutathione is most popular probably due to its antioxidant properties. It is very prevalent in many different organs, especially the lungs. It works to defend cells from oxidative stress, and it also functions in the regulation and maintenance of the immune system. Also, high glutathione levels are associated with better health for elderly individuals.

    Varied Uses

    • There are many varied, beneficial uses of this supplement. Many ailments can be helped by glutathione. Glutathione is popular for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, sickle cell anemia, cataracts, liver cancer, poisoning and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It also can help with decreasing the blood pressure levels of diabetics and raising sperm counts for both male humans and animals. It is also known for increasing the effectiveness (as well as lowering the toxicity levels) of a chemotherapy medication known as cis-platinum.

    Diet

    • Glutathione is naturally occurring and is found in a large variety of foods. People with healthy diets most likely have sufficient amounts of glutathione in their bodies. People who consume sufficient amounts of fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and meats that are freshly prepared usually tend to have enough glutathione.

    Safety

    • Glutathione is not known to have any common side effects. It is generally considered to be very safe for most people. However, people who have received organ transplants or who have allergies to milk protein should avoid taking glutathione as a dietary supplement.
