Types of Bed Frames

When it comes to beds, frames are a huge factor to be considered. While that usually seems like a rather simple choice, the truth is that there are numerous bed frames to choose from. They come in different styles and various materials. It is likely that the greatest concern will be the quality of the bed frame. Another concern will likely be the style of bed that you are considering. This is usually determined by how many people will be sleeping in the bed and how much room is available to comfortably house the bed. One might really want a king-size bed, but if there is not sufficient space available, then the option really is not feasible. Price is also relevant, too, which usually takes people right back to the traditional metal bed frame, which are the most affordable. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Metal

    • The most common bed frame is made of metal. These kinds of bed frames are very affordable and can be bought in twin, full, queen or king sizes. The larger frames have a middle support added to them and they are either on wheels or sit flush to the ground on rubber casters. The frame is designed so the mattress will not slide off the frame. Most headboards can be affixed to the metal frames. These are also easy to move.

    Wooden

    • The wooden frame is a lot like the metal frame, but it will usually just have wooden legs. It is much harder to move around. They also sit much higher from the ground than metal frames do. It is possible to affix both a headboard and a footboard to a wood frame. Normally, wooden frames come with slats, which are thinner pieces of wood that are put under the box spring and between the frame for additional support.

    Platform

    • Platform frames hold only a mattress since there is no reason for a box spring. The platform is the frame, and usually there are drawers or other means of storage under the mattress. These are a more contemporary choice. There is no need for headboards or footboards with this type of frame. A waterbed uses a platform frame.

    Adjustable

    • Adjustable bed frames are quite expensive in comparison to other kinds of bed frames. These are also not your typical bed frame because they require a special type of mattress that gives a person the option of lying or sitting in a number of positions. They are similar to hospital beds that run on remotes to move. When looking for a larger bed with an adjustable frame, such as queen or king size, there is the option of a split frame, which allows both people sleeping on the bed the opportunity to have their own remote and their own style of sleep or recline. These are great for those who have special needs because of physical limitations or back pain.

    Bunk Bed

    • Twin over full

Bunk beds are becoming trendier because people are always searching for ways to save on space. In the bedroom, the bunk bed is the way to save the most space. There are a variety of bunk bed frames available, depending on what style is most favored. The most common type of bunk bed frame allows one bed to be stacked on top of the other while the frame holds them securely. Some choose the twin-over-twin style, and others prefer the twin-over-full style. There are also futon bunk bed options where the bottom part of the frame will convert into a couch when not in use.
