Types of Transistor Packages

Transistors are semiconductors that control the amount of current flowing through a circuit. The current is drawn from a voltage that is connected to it. You can use transistors for switching, signal modulation, voltage stabilization and amplification. You can find millions of transistors in an IC chip placed inside computers, digital cameras, cell phones and media players. There are different types of transistor packages.

  1. TO-8

    • The TO-8 package includes a component made from aluminum used for transistors. TO-8 package contains a high efficiency component described as small metal can power. This component has a certain feature, such as dual-level sunburst. You can find the component in this package to be .437" and 11.1 mm in height.

    TO-220

    • The TO-220 package contains an electronic component that is .750 inches and 19.1 mm in height. The component in this package is made from aluminum. TO-220 package is used for silicon-power transistors. You can find the electronic component in this package in horizontal and vertical mounts.

    TO-223

    • The TO-223 is another among the various types of transistor packages. The component in the TO-223 package contains a feature, such as a clip-on. This component is made of aluminum, and described as twisted fin vertical. You can find the component in this package to be 1.18 inches and 30.0 mm in height.

    Multi-watt

    • The multi-watt package contains an electronic component that is featured as vertical mounts. The multi-watt package is used for high-power circuits. The electrical component in this package is 2.168 inches and 55.1 mm in height. A multi-watt package has up to 15 lead units. The description of this electrical component is board level heat sink 50 tab and 35 deg. You can find this component made of aluminum material.

    TO-3

    • The TO-3 is another among the different types of transistor packages. TO-3 is a metal can package type used for large transistors. You can find a component made for silicon-power transistors in this package. The component provides heat conduction and durability. The TO-3 package has three-lead units.
