Netscape POP3 Incoming and Outgoing Server Information
Each email provider uses its own POP3 and SMTP servers, and Netscape is no exception. Email communications use two separate communications servers to send and receive email. POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version 3) is the technology used for the incoming email server. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the outgoing email server.

Server Settings
-
Although some services use the same address (albeit different ports) for the POP3 and SMTP services, Netscape uses two different settings:
Netscape Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop3.isp.netscape.com
Netscape Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.isp.netscape.com
Email Client Selection
-
To set up your email client to send and receive mail from your Netscape account, enter the POP3 and SMTP settings in your email client. If you do not already use an email client, some popular email clients are:
Windows Mail (included with Microsoft Vista)
Outlook Express (included with Windows 2000 and XP)
Thunderbird (free download) -
Email Client Setup
-
Once you have selected your email client, configure your email client to use the Netscape POP3 and SMTP servers. Each email client is different, so instructions vary (see References).
Send a Test Message
-
Once you have configured your email client with the Netscape POP3 incoming and SMTP outgoing server information, send a test email to verify you properly entered the settings and that everything works properly. Sending a test message to yourself will serve this purpose: The SMTP server will be tested by sending the test message, and the POP3 server will be tested by receiving the message you sent.
Software Email Client vs. Webmail
-
Downloading your email via the Netscape POP3 server allows you to read your email at any time, regardless of whether you are connected to the Internet. The downside is that you will be unable to read the emails you download from another Internet-connected computer, which you could do with webmail.
Sending email through an email client, as opposed to webmail, generally allows you more control over the message. You can type the message while you are offline and you may have more control over the formatting of your message than you would with webmail.
