What Kind of Jobs Can You Get With an AA Degree?
Whether you are a recent high school graduate or someone looking for a new and better job, a two-year degree can provide a quick start to that new career. Many jobs only require an associate's degree, available at community colleges in virtually every area of the country, as well as on line.

Health Care Jobs
-
Health care jobs are often seen as recession-proof. Regardless of whether the economy is flourishing or floundering, people will always need health care, especially with the aging of the baby boomer generation. Nurses in particular are in high demand. Students can complete the course for licensed practical nurses in just one year, or earn an associate's degree in two years, opening the door to later become a registered nurse, which typically requires a three year degree.
Other health care jobs that require an AA degree include paramedic specialist, medical lab technician, radiological technician, phlebotomy technician, physical therapy assistant and medical billing and coding.
Industrial Technology
-
People who like to work with their hands, creating or maintaining the most valuable possessions we own---our homes and our vehicles---might consider a career in industrial technology. A two-year program in auto collision technology or auto mechanics will give you the start to a profitable career and open the door to owning your own business, as would a degree to become a carpenter or electrician. If you have an inventive spirit, you might want to look into an engineer and design technology program, where you learn how to build the products people want to buy. And with the increasing need for people with skills in sustainable living, you may want to consider a degree in sustainable energy technology.

Computers
-
A computer electronics technology degree offers you the opportunity to work in a variety of position in the IT field. Jobs in this field include microcomputer technician, microcomputer software support, PC/network (LAN) specialist, microcomputer specialist, customer service technician, applications programmer or installation specialist.
More degrees are available in fields such as simulation and gaming, computer security and network specialists.
Arts and Media
-
You don't have to settle for life as a starving artist. Two-year AA degrees in the art field include animation, graphic design and photography as well as hands-on programs such as culinary arts and landscaping/horticulture. Many media jobs require only an AA degree. A degree in television and video production offers you the chance to work for a TV station, advertising agency, in private industry producing in-house audio visual, in an educational institution or a video production house.
Human Services
-
These careers will not help you become a millionaire. If, however, you want to work in a field where you can make a difference in other people's lives, there are opportunities for a person with an AA degree in the field of human services. Teaching assistant and early childhood education associate's degrees prepare you for a career in the school system or daycare, and could open the door for you to operate your own daycare business. A human service associate degree may also help you get a job in community outreach, mental health services, community corrections, or working with people who have disabilities.
