About Pureology Shampoo
Pureology shampoo is a high-end shampoo for color-treated hair. It is distributed only through more upscale salons and spas. It is not available in department stores or through Pureology's website. What sets Pureology shampoo apart from other color care shampoos is that it is vegan, natural and sulfate-free, and has been from its inception. Does this Spark an idea?

History
-
Jim Markham, a professional in the salon industry based in Irvine, California, started the Pureology brand in 2001. He determined that there was a need for a long-lasting but gentle product that would help preserve hair color. Markham originally marketed his idea to professional colorists, and Pureology shampoo claims on its website to be the best-selling color-preserving brand in the United States.
Formulas
-
All Pureology shampoo is made with gentle botanical ingredients and no animal byproducts. Each ingredient is chosen for its quality, and Pureology strives to use organics where available. Pureology's special formulas include an AntiFade Complex, which contains both sunscreen and antioxidants to protect hair from the elements and neutralize free radicals; and ZeroSulfate, which uses sugar, coconut and corn instead of salts to maximize color preservation.

Pureology Systems
-
Pureology has six different lines of shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Each line is called a "system." The six shampoos available (one in each line) are Specialty Care, Nano Works, Super Straight, Essential Repair, Hydrate and Pure Volume. Specialty Care is for people with damaged hair or a scalp condition such as dandruff. Nano Works is an antiaging shampoo designed to bring back shine and manageability. Super Straight works to prevent frizz and flyaways and give hair a sleek appearance. Essential Repair contains vitamins and proteins to build hair up from the roots. Hydrate has special hydrating technology. Pure Volume adds body and bounce.
Pureology at the Drugstore
-
Although Pureology shampoo is only distributed to high-end establishments, you may notice it on the shelves of your local drugstore, and you are sure to find it online. If you do, note that Pureology has not authorized the vendor to sell its shampoo in this manner. It considers these bottles to be "diverted" and does not condone the practice. However, this does not necessarily mean that the shampoo is unsafe or counterfeited.
Professional Treatment
-
Some salons that carry Pureology products offer a professional shampoo treatment that helps to deeply cleanse hair before color is applied. This treatment is designed to remove impurities and open pores, so the hair is more evenly covered and the color turns out the best it possibly can. This treatment is not available to consumers for purchase.
Recognition
-
Pureology shampoo has gotten coverage in several women's beauty magazines. In 2008, Nano Works shampoo gained a mention on "Allure" magazine's Best of Beauty list. PureVolume shampoo was profiled in "Ladies Home Journal" that same year. While Pureology shampoo is marketed mostly to women, it is not so gender specific that men do not use it.
