Facts
-
Pickleball is a sport played with wooden paddles and a small, plastic baseball similar to a Wiffle ball. It's a cross between ping-pong and tennis, played on a regulation badminton court with the net placed lower to the ground at approximately 34 inches. Pickleball can be played as a singles or doubles match.
History
-
Pickleball got its name in a rather unique way. It was first played in the backyard of a family who had a dog named Pickles. Pickles loved to chase the ball the kids were playing with and bring it back to them.

About
-
Pickleball can either be a leisurely sport for a couple of friends to play together, or it can be a fast-paced, competitive sport for experienced athletes. The rules of pickleball are very simple, and the game can be learned by individuals of all ages and skill levels. It has evolved from backyard recreation to competitive tournaments across the globe.
Serving
-
A player must serve underhand and with both feet behind the baseline. In order for a serve to be legal, the ball must make contact with the paddle below the waist. When the ball is first served, it must be allowed to hit both sides once before it can be volleyed. (A volley is when the ball is successfully returned from side to side without first hitting the ground.) This is called the double-bounce rule. Also, the ball must be served diagonally across the net, and the serve starts on the right side.
Lets
-
A let occurs during a serve. If a player serves the ball and it hits the net and lands on the serving court, that team is allowed what is called a let. A let is then replayed. The player is given one more chance to make the ball over the net. If he does this unsuccessfully, the serve is forfeited and the opposing team is given possession of the ball.
Scoring
-
Pickleball is played to a score of 11 and must be won by 2 points. A team or player can only score when they or their teammate is serving and when the ball is unsuccessfully returned by the other team.
