What to Put on a Wedding Registry List?

Wedding registries have been around for years and have grown with the times from choosing certain items at stores to using one store's computerized system for the wedding registry. But have the gifts that couples desire also changed with the times? Basically, couples are still wanting the same traditional items. However, technology must be remembered when considering what to put on the wedding registry list. Also, many couples have co-habitated for years or have lived on their own and might have most of the basics for housekeeping. Wedding registries can come in handy for couples that already have many basic items.

  1. Dishes

    • Couples still list dishes on their wedding registry, but the trend seems to be for more casual dishes rather than formal china. Couples are thinking more in terms of what a family with children can use. Whether the bride has listed fine china or more family friendly place settings, be sure that the set is complete with five pieces. This would include the dinner plate, bowl, salad plate, cup and saucer. Also be sure to list which brand and pattern you'd like.

    Cook Ware

    • Be sure to list at least the basics when registering for cookware. Again, be sure to list which brand and style you wish guests to buy. The basics include a 10- or 12-inch skillet (preferably non-stick), a 2-quart saucepan, a 6-quart stockpot and a dutch oven. Many newlywed couples want put crock pots on their wedding registry.

    Silverware

    • When registering for silverware, be sure to pick out your design, brand, and what you wish to be included in the set. For example, some silverware sets include salad forks and soup spoons while others don't. Most sets do come complete with a teaspoon, a soup spoon, a fork, a salad fork and a knife. Most sets also include a tablespoon.

    Linens

    • When registering for linens, be specific. Figure beforehand how many beds will be in your home the requisite sizes. Will you be needing queen or twin sheet sets? Is there a specific color, brand or design you want? What type of fabric would you prefer your sheets to be made of? All of these considerations should be included in your wedding registry. Also, consider what type of towels you wish to have, what color or brands and sizes. For example, some couples now prefer the large bath towels. Be sure to list how many sets of towels you will need. Also, list whether you want monogrammed towels.

    Glassware

    • Many couples still want crystal. This might be nice for celebrations, but will not likely serve a new couple well when the children arrive. It would be smart to list crystal and traditional glassware on your wedding registry. Limit the number of crystal items and concentrate on daily glassware, as these will be used more frequently. List the size of the glasses, how many of each and the design and color.
