What Vitamins Should Men Take for Fertility?

There are numerous reasons for male infertility, and many men struggle with it across the world. Some of these reasons could include illness, certain medications, testicle injury, excessive heat exposed to the testicles, drinking too much alcohol, too much caffeine, vitamin deficiency, and even stress. While some may be recommended to work on the above issues in order to attempt to resolve the infertility, some may consider taking vitamins proven to help infertility.

    Vitamin C

  1. When a male is lacking the proper amount of Vitamin C, clumping of the sperm may result. Men who smoke and have sperm that is abnormally formed can also benefit by taking Vitamin C. The toxins from the smoke inhaled actually enter the bloodstream, which then can interfere with the semen. Once this happens, it can cause a less than favorable sperm count and reduced functionality. Vitamin C will actually help decrease the clumping of sperm, raising a man's fertility. Simply taking 200 to 1000 mg each day can improve sperm function and count.
  2. Vitamin E

  3. When a man lacks the proper amount of Vitamin E, it prevents the sperm from forming properly. Sperm production relies on important sex hormones and enzymes, and a low level of Vitamin E decreases the hormone and enzyme formation. Before a male begins taking Vitamin E, he should consult a doctor to get a personal recommended daily dosage.
  4. Vitamin B-12

  5. Vitamin B-12 is especially beneficial for men who are older, around the late 50's to early 60's. As men age, the body does not store Vitamin B-12 as much as it did when they were younger. If they are lacking enough B-12, their sperm counts and the sperm's ability to swim can actually decrease significantly, therefore lowering fertility.
  6. Zinc

  7. Zinc helps increase the sperm's ability to swim. A female's reproductive system has a rather harsh environment for the sperm, so it is very beneficial if the sperm are healthy and able to swim really well. When a man ejaculates, thousands of sperm are released. However, there are normally only one or two sperm that are strong enough to fully make it through the woman's reproductive system. By taking just 240 mg each day, a man can benefit from zinc and increase fertility.
  8. Selenium

  9. Selenium is actually a mineral that plays a very important role in a man's fertility. The properties of selenium are anti-oxidant and help protect the membranes of the spermatic cells from being damaged by free radicals in the body. Selenium works even better when combined with Vitamins A and E. Only 200 micrograms each day are needed to gain benefits of this effective mineral and improve fertility.
