What Are the Side Effects of Mobic Medicine?
It can be hard living with arthritis and its chronic joint pain and inflammation. Luckily, Mobic is a medication that can help limit the pain of arthritis symptoms. Unfortunately, there are some worrisome side effects of this drug that must be considered before using it.
-
Stomach Bleeding
-
Like other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Mobic has a chance of causing a tear or perforation in the stomach and intestines. Symptoms of this side effect include coughing up blood or producing bloody or tarred-looking stools. There may also be intense abdominal pain and vomiting. This is a serious side effect and immediate medical attention is necessary if symptoms are present.
Increased Risk of Heart Disease
-
Mobic increases the risk of heart disease in some patients. It may cause heart and circulation problems. This includes heart attacks and strokes. To limit negative side effects, Mobic should not be taken before or after heart surgery. Discuss your heart health with your doctor before taking Mobic.
-
Allergic Reactions
-
Some patients have allergic reactions to their Mobic medication, as well as to the generic form, meloxicam. If you have allergies to aspirin, ibuprofen or other NSAID medications, do not take Mobic. Alert your doctor to any other medication allergies. Allergic reactions to Mobic are potentially fatal.
Urination Changes
-
Although rare, some patients have noted a change in their urination while taking Mobic. Some have seen a drastic decrease in urination, whereas others have had it stop completely. Although this may seem like a small side effect, it can cause significant pain and other medical problems if not immediately resolved.
Chest Pain and Nausea
-
Mobic may cause chest pain, nausea and shortness of breath. Some patients even have problems with balance and vision. If these side effects are mild, your doctor may want to keep you on Mobic and prescribe another medication to address the side effects. If they are severe, you may need to cease taking Mobic.
