What Is a Hair Diffuser?
Hair diffusers serve many different purposes, and they can be a useful tool for achieving a certain hairstyle. The right styling tools can make your hair easier to manage and teach you how to work with your hair, embracing its natural texture. Does this Spark an idea?

History
-
Hair diffusers are commonly used in salons, but their popularity has dwindled for mainstream use at home. In the '80s and early '90s, hair diffusers were often included in the purchase of a hair dryer. Diffusers are still sometimes included with the purchase, but it is less common. They can be purchased separately at beauty supply stores and attached to almost any standard size hair dryer.
Types
-
Diffusers can cut down on drying time because they are not only drying the hair, but they also assist in styling. There are two different types of hair diffusers. One is large and resembles a funnel and diffuses hair over a large surface area. The other has a narrow opening and blows concentrated air out onto a small portion of hair. Both are useful, and choosing which is right for you depends on the function you'd like the diffuser to perform.
-
Function
-
The first is used for increasing curls or waves for naturally curly or wavy hair. It can also be used to add lift and volume to straight or limp hair, but it should only be used at the root of the hair for doing this. The latter is used to keep the hot air blowing from the dryer on one area and prevent frizz from forming throughout the hair. As opposed to hair blowing out of the dryer and going all over the place, it only comes out of a slim nozzle, which allows the hair cuticle to lay flat when used with a round or flat brush.
Size
-
The size of diffusers can vary, and you will find the largest selection at a beauty supply store or a specialty beauty store like Ulta or Sephora. Diffusers sold on their own will fit a standard hair dryer and usually cost anywhere from $10 to $20. Diffusers do not vary in quality, or work in conjunction with the dryer you're working with. A low priced diffuser will perform just the same as one purchased at a higher price point.
Potential
-
Using a diffuser can cut down on drying time, but also makes it easier to achieve the hair you'll love. Finding a hair diffuser is not difficult, and they are affordable, making them a fantastic beauty tool to try.
