What Is the File Extension OFM?

Files with the OFM file extension can come from a number of different sources. Because there are a number of different programs that can create this file type, it is critical to try to figure out what program created the OFM file in order to properly open it. This can be done by looking at associated programs and what other files are with it to help give the file extension some context.

  1. Embroidery Design File

    • One program that uses files with an OFM extension is a program called Embroidery Design. This program can be used with certain embroidery machines to automatically embroider certain patterns. The publisher of these embroidery programs is Melco.

    Fonts

    • OFM files are also used for fonts for some programs. The most prominent program that stores fonts as OFM files is Adobe Acrobat. In order to display certain fonts, the Adobe programs have to store information as to each font's appearance and how each character appears. These display instructions are stored in OFM files.

    OfficeForms Blank Form File

    • Another OFM file extension can be created by the OfficeForms program. This is a computer program that turns generic documents and PDFs into more dynamic types of documents. This is geared toward creating documents that help guide customers to fill out the forms and provide the necessary information. This program, when creating a new blank document, will use the OFM extension.

    OmniForm Form File

    • OFM file extensions can also be used for a program called OmniForm. This program, which was created by Nuance, is used as a document converter. This means that it has the capability to turn one type of document, such as a Word document, into a another type, such as a PDF. This program will often create an OFM file as a sort of intermediary between the different document forms.

    PostScript Font Description File

    • Similarly to the way in which OFM files can be used to store font information for Adobe products, they can also be used for another document viewing program called PostScript.
