Cell phones are constantly evolving. One of the changes in cell phones has been the shift to cell phones that use touch screen technology. These touch screen phones can make it easier to operate the cell phone in many ways. Unfortunately, though, there also are some factors that make touch screens less than perfect.

  1. Texting

    • Texting based on the feel of the keypad is not possible with a touch screen phone that uses the digital keypad on the screen. You do not have the feel of the buttons, because they are not raised. You also can not tell that the button was pressed by feel and must look at the screen to make sure the keystroke you intended appeared on the screen.

    Sensitivity Of The Device

    • When you are using a touch screen phone, the sensitivity of the screen takes some getting used to. With some screens, the sensitivity is so high that just lightly touching a button will cause the phone to react. For others, you must press hard on the button for it to recognize you are pressing it. The sensitivity can decrease further if you are using a screen guard. The oversensitive and undersensitive problems can be especially frustrating when you are playing a game on a touch screen phone.

    Scratching

    • Unlike a traditional cell phone, with a touch screen phone you are constantly touching the screen. This can increase the risk of the screen being damaged. The damage can come from a scratch or it can come from using your hands when they are not perfectly clean, causing smears on the screen. Both of these issues can make the screen hard to read.

    Button Size

    • Touch screen phones can be very difficult to use when there are a lot of small buttons on the screen to use to control an application. This can be especially true with a scientific calculator option and some mapping features on touch tone phones. Other examples include some games where the controls on the touch screen are small enough that you hit two buttons at once.

    Need For Screen Protection

    • It's important to protect your cell phone screen for aesthetic reasons normally, but it's even more important with touch screen phones. Deep scratches or scuff marks on the face of the phone might make it harder to read the controls for certain applications. With traditional cell phones you do not have to read the use of a button on the screen, but with the touch tone screens this is important. Damaging the screen can also make the screen less responsive to touching it.
