What Is Cordycep?

Cordyceps sinensis is a fungus that is traditionally used in Chinese medicine. It is a dried herb that is raised on caterpillars residing in high Chinese mountains. Because of that, it is often referred to as being "the caterpillar mushroom." It is cultivated naturally in the Chinese highlands and also in Nepal and Tibet, at altitudes above 10,000 feet.

    • There are several health benefits that are associated with Cordycep sinensis. These benefits include enhancing stamina and recovery of speed after fatigue. It is also a tonic that is beneficial for the nourishment of the body and promoting the activity of the brain. It also is an antioxidant that fights free radical damage.

    Uses

    • Cordyceps sinensis has many different uses and applications throughout the body. Some of the ways to use Cordyceps include using it as a cancer therapy adjuvant, affecting the respiratory, circulatory and immune systems, the sexual organs, liver and kidneys.

    Aphrodisiac

    • Cordyceps sinensis is also known to act as a strong aphrodisiac. It is used to treat males who are suffering from impotence (inability of men to attain or maintain an erection). There are also two compounds within Cordyceps sinensis, which are mannitol and deoxyadenosine, that have abilities to raise the levels of the sex drive.

    Side Effects

    • Cordyceps is generally considered to be safe and side effect-free. It also has a very long past of being consumed as a food. However, certain people should exercise caution when considering using Cordyceps, including pregnant or lactating women and children. There are also no known drug interactions.

    Taking Cordyceps

    • Cordyceps is taken in three different ways, as food, powder extract or liquid. The recommended daily dosage for Cordyceps is between three and nine grams, twice a day.
