A rose bush is not a simple thing. In fact, there are several types of rose bushes, each one with its own characteristics. There are rose bushes that have characteristics that make them perfect for growing indoors as well as outdoors. Other rose bushes have characteristics that make them perfect for a cut flowerm and others that have characteristics that make them perfect for climbing on a trellis.

    Hybrid Teas

  1. Hybrid Tea Rose Bushes have long stems and large blooms. These are the roses that you will find for sale at a florist shop. A Hybrid Tea Rose Bush will grow from 3 to 6 feet in height and the roses come in every color except for blue and black. Hybrid Tea Rose Bushes are one of the oldest varieties available today. The first one was grown in 1867. One drawback is that they are not that hardy in higher elevations.
  2. Floribundas

  3. Floribunda Rose Bushes are smaller rose bushes with small blooms that grow in groups or clusters or as single flowers. The stems are not long, so they do not make good cut flowers. The Floribunda Rose Bushes are used mainly as a landscaping feature.
  4. Grandifloras

  5. Grandiflora Rose Bushes are a combination of the Hybrid and the Floribunda. The Grandiflora Rose Bushes will grow to a height of about 5 feet. The Roses look like the Hybrids, but do not have as much fragrance. Grandiflora Rose Bushes will bloom continuously all season long instead of in bursts like the other types are prone to do.
  6. Miniatures

  7. Miniature Rose Bushes grow from 1 to 3 feet in height and are small enough to be used as a container plant. Miniature Rose Bushes can also be grown inside and the flowers range in size from ½ to 2 inches. Miniature Roses have a fragrance that you would expect from one of the larger varieties.
  8. Climbing Roses

  9. Climbing Rose Bushes grow very large and they need to be trained over an arch, trellis or on the side of a house. There are three different varieties of Climbing Roses. The first one is called Large Flowered Climbers and can grow as high as 20 feet. This type has thicker and stiffer canes. The rambler is an older and more traditional style of Climbing Rose Bush. The canes are thinner and more pliable with small clusters of flowers. The third is a climbing version of the Hybrids and Florigundas. The look like their counterparts except for the fact that they will climb a trellis.
