Uses for Lavender Plants

Lavender is a flowering plant in the mint family. There are nearly 30 different lavender species, but the most common is L. Angustifolia. This is commonly referred to as English lavender. Like most herbs, lavender has many uses.

Theraputic

Lavender has long been used for its therapeutic properties. Its scent is considered relaxing and invigorating which makes it quite popular. If you feel sad or anxious, just roll a small amount of flower buds between your fingers and slowly inhale the scent for maximum effect. Many say that doing this combined with slow breathing can elevate your mood in a matter of minutes.

Tea

Lavender is a really popular herb to make tea with. This tea is good for anxiety relief, assistance in falling asleep and settling an upset stomach. The best time to drink it in the evening when you're winding down. To make lavender tea, add a tablespoon of dried lavender to six cups of boiling water. Let the lavender infuse for 10 to 15 minutes and then sip on it slowly.

Clothing Freshener

Lavender is a great scent to use as a clothes freshener. To do this, take a handful of lavender flowers and wrap it up in a cheesecloth. Securely tie it shut with a string or ribbon. Put this sachet in your dryer along with your clothes. Each sachet works for over 20 dryer loads. This leaves your clothes smelling fresh and is also completely natural, unlike dryer sheets.

Hair

Using lavender as a hair rinse is a great natural remedy for dandruff, a problem that many people suffer from. In addition to relieving dandruff problems, a lavender hair rinse also leaves your hair smelling natural and fresh. To create your own hair rinse, boil six cups of water and add a tablespoon of dried lavender. Let it infuse for 15 minutes and then the concoction cool down. Once cool, slowly pour it over your hair, making sure to rub it into your scalp.

Breath Freshener

Lavender naturally fights the odor as well as leaving a fresh taste in your mouth. In fact, it's common for people to use fresh lavender flowers to help them fight unpleasant breath, whether it's a severe or mild case. The remedy is simple: Take one or two fresh lavender flowers and chew on them. Add more depending on the severity of your case.
