What Is Diclofenaco?

Diclofenaco is an eye drop solution that is used to treat postoperative eye surgeries and general eye disorders. Diclofenaco is an ophthalmic preparation of .1% diclofenac sodium and is part of the topical ophthalmological group of medicine. This medication is used in postoperative surgery for treating inflammation in the anterior segment in your eye. Diclofenaco also treats noninfectious chronic conjunctivitis and is used for general eye inflammation or eye pain.

  1. Ingredients

    • Not only does diclofenaco contain diclofenac sodium, but it also contains lysine, boric acid, polyoxyethylenated castor oil, sodium chloride, sodium borate, benzalkonium chloride and sodium edetate. There is also water in diclofenaco so that it can be used as a solution.

    Before Using Diclofenaco

    • Before you apply diclofenaco, it is important to know some key information regarding this medication. You should not drive or use any machines while using this product, and pregnant women or children younger than 3 should not use this product.

    Using Diclofenaco

    • To use diclofenaco, tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down and look up. Apply the diclofenaco drop to your conjunctival sac, which is the space between your eye and eyelid. Gently, squeeze the bottle of diclofenaco until a drop falls into your eye. Once the drop hits your eye, quickly shut your eye and keep it closed for a few seconds. You will want to wait approximately five minutes before you apply the next drop. Your doctor or physician will provide you with the appropriate number of drops, depending on your medical problem.

    Side Effects

    • Like most medications, diclofenaco does have possible side effects. You may feel some mild to moderate stinging in your eye from the eye drop solution. Some patients experience redness and sensitivity to light, and if you have any adverse side effects, you will need to contact your doctor immediately.

    Storage

    • It is essential that you store diclofenaco in its original container, and make sure children cannot reach it. Once the diclofenaco container is open, the contents will expire after one month, and it needs to be stored in regular environmental conditions.

    Other Uses

    • According to the National Institutes of Health, diclofenaco can be prescribed for other ailments, but you must get permission from your doctor or physician. Diclofenaco can be used to relieve pain and inflammation in the body and treat gout, arthritis and tendinitis.
