Why is Jamaica a Popular Vacation Spot?

Jamaica is an island nation that lies in the Caribbean Sea. It is approximately 90 miles south of Cuba. Jamaica has been an independent nation since 1962. There are many enjoyable activities and sights to see in Jamaica.

Hiking

There are hiking trails up the mountains along some of the coastal areas. The Blue Mountains contain the highest peak on the island of Jamaica. There is a seven-mile hike that ends at the peak of the mountain range. Many people like to time their hike so that they reach the top at sunrise. Obviously, if this is done, the hike up will be done in darkness. Even if hikers do not opt for this timing, the hike to the top and the view once there is spectacular. This hiking trail, as well as many others, can be found within the Blue Mountain and John Crow Mountain National Park.

Spanish Town

The first capital of Jamaica is known as Spanish Town. Spanish Town was a bustling and beautiful capital city with impressive homes. There are still monuments standing that visitors enjoy exploring.

Bicycling

Bicycle tours are available within the Blue Mountains that take tourists through forests, down hills, past coffee plantations, and past colorful areas of wildflowers and plants. Experienced and novice bicyclists alike can enjoy the exhilaration of biking down a mountain.

Milk River Spa

Jamaica has special waters that are featured at the Milk River Spa. These natural spring mineral waters were discovered in the late 1700s and typically stay stable at temperatures around 85 degrees.

Beaches

Two of the most popular beaches in Jamaica are Mallard Beach and Turtle Beach. These are beaches with many amenities created for tourists, including food, water activities and entertainment. Jamaica's sand is unsurpassed and the waters are crystal clear.

Snorkeling

Tourists who enjoy snorkeling can find some of the many underwater areas where sunken ships, coral reefs, ocean wildlife, and various caves and caverns lie under the surface of the water. Negril is one of the most popular spots for snorkeling in Jamaica. There are some very appealing snorkeling locations with guided snorkeling tours available.

Caves

Jamaica has many caves that line the northern and western coasts. In many of the same snorkeling areas in Negril, there are also amazing cave formations, including stalagmites, stalactites, tunnels and even a lake that exists at an undersea depth.
