- File extensions often serve as acronyms for the actual type of file. In this instance, the letters CEX stand for Currency Exchanger Rate File.
- File extensions that feature a format of three characters after the period, are traditionally compressed files. This means it is part of an install routine, that will activate when you open the file. The Currency Exchanger Rate File can be multiple things, but is most commonly a progressive, multi-image, JPEG file. A selection of JPEG photos are compressed and packaged under the new extension of CEX.
- CEX files are safe to open on your computer, but, as with all files, there are conditions. If you are not familiar with the download source of the file, or the person who sent it to you, do not open it. If your computer fails to recognize a program on your computer than can open the CEX file, consult a local technology expert about what program would be best to download, in order to open the file. Most electronics stores will have an expert you can contact. As always, it is recommended you scan any files your download with a virus detection program, such as Norton Anti-Virus, before you open it.
- CEX files are just like any other type of file. The best way to open them is to double-click and allow your computer to locate the appropriate program to run them in, automatically. If your computer can't find such a program installed on your computer, you'll most likely be prompted to select a program for yourself. If you have a program in mind, choose it. Otherwise, you'll have to use trial and error. Chances are high, though, that you don't have a program that will open this kind of file if your computer doesn't find one on the first go-round. There are a limited number of programs that can access CEX file contents. The most common, and generally the best, is the Computerized Language Analysis Program, or CLAN. CLAN is a program designed to analyze multiple transcribed data, and exports its files as CEX.
- File conversions are fairly common, especially if a file is using an extension your computer doesn't recognize. If your computer can't display the contents of a CEX file, you can try converting it. If you can display the contents, conversion may still be desirable. If you can't open a CEX file, your best bet for conversion is to use a third-party online file conversion software. Some popular conversion sites are YouConvertIt, Zamzar, and Convert-Extensions. There are many different options, and all are generally very effective. Conversion is much simpler if you can open the CEX file. You simply open the file in its usual program and then select "Save As," switch the file extension to what you want, and select "Save." When converting, you want to pick the file type closest to the current file type. In this case, since CEX files are a compression of multiple JPEG images, the PDF format would be appropriate.
