There are many types of Chihuahua mixes in the dog world. Chihuahuas can cross-breed with all kinds of other dogs, both small and large and in between. The most common combination is probably the Chiweenie — a dachshund and Chihuahua mix. There are dozens of Chihuahua mixes. While it's not likely that you'll find a Great Dane and Chihuahua mix, it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility given the right circumstances.

Mixed breeds are a popular choice nowadays when it comes to adopting a canine companion. Chihuahuas are one of the most popular small dog breeds. The Chihuahua is one of the oldest breeds in the Americas. Their terrierlike traits make them want to be the boss of the household, so good training is crucial when parenting one of these compact and confident dogs. Mix in another breed with your Chihuahua and you will probably end up with the best of both breeds.

Full-grown Chihuahua poodle mix

The poodle mixed with Chihuahua, known as the Chi-Poo in some circles, is a great mix of compact size, good energy, and family friendliness. Both breeds are super smart and adorable, and they make excellent guard dogs. These dogs are easy to groom and are a good choice for people who want to avoid a lot of shedding or for folks who have allergies. Chi-Poos are adaptable to most living circumstances, from a single person to a large family. They do prefer warmer climates.

Cross a Chihuahua with a beagle

The Cheagle is one of the more popular Chihuahua mix breeds — a beagle crossed with a Chihuahua. The best traits of both are combined, including being super energetic, loyal, and the perfect compact size.

The Cheagle appears in several different color combinations, starting with the typical tricolor markings of the beagle, but they can also be solid brown, black, white, or cream. They are certainly vocal given that both breeds are known for their barking tendencies. The mix started becoming popular as a designer breed in the late 1990s. They can go by other names: beagle Chi, Chi-bea, Chibeagle, or simply beagle Chihuahua mix.

Great Dane and Chihuahua mix

Is it true? Is this really a thing? Despite being from both sides of the size spectrum, the Chihuahua and Great Dane mix, although rare, does exist. The two individual breeds could not be more different, and it's questionable as to how these two could get together to create offspring. In fact, dogs cannot mate in the normal way, so artificial insemination is used to create the Chihuahua Great Dane mix. The process must be done by experts, and a female Chihuahua would be unlikely to carry the pup(s) to term, therefore requiring surgical birth. Once born, these dogs have quite a few health risks.

Other Chihuahua mixed breeds

From the Chat terrier (Chihuahua crossed with a rat terrier) to the BoChi (Boston terrier mixed with a Chihuahua), the possibilities are close to endless. Some breeders estimate that there could be 40 or more types of Chihuahua cross breeds. The Chi crossed with a pug makes a great choice for a senior or someone looking for a companion with slightly less energy in a compact size. Conversely, the Jack Chi is a cross between a Chi and — you guessed it — a Jack Russell terrier. These guys can pack of lot of energy and vitality into a small package, so be ready to help that pup burn off all that energy.

The min Chin is a miniature pinscher crossed with a Chihuahua. The two breeds are so similar in size and looks that people may not notice this combination as a mix. These pint-size canines think they are a big dog in a little dog's body, so they make an ideal choice for a guard dog with their self-assurance and big personality.

Then, you have the Chorgi, the Chorkie, the Chi-Apso, and the Chi Chon. But perhaps the most interesting-looking of all the Chihuahua crosses is the Italian greyhuahua. That's a cross between an Italian greyhound and a Chihuahua. The Italian greyhound is a small breed, unlike its larger cousin, the greyhound. The combination of the spunky Chi and sweetie-pie Italian greyhound is one of the cutest mixes of all the Chihuahua mixes. They are rather high energy but loyal as the day is long, and they will follow you anywhere. They're very entertaining and will make you laugh a lot too.
