Gastrointestinal Candida Symptoms

There are two instances where yeast comes to mind for most people. The yeast that is used to make bread dough rise and the yeast that causes vaginal infections. However, there is another type of candida that anyone who has taken a round of antibiotics should know about. It's called gastrointestinal candidiasis and it is quite literally an accumulation of yeast in your digestive tract. This can cause numerous health problems that interfere with your quality of life. That's why it's so important to pay heed to the following symptoms so you can receive an accurate diagnosis and then follow through with the appropriate treatment plan.

  1. Digestive Problems

    • Developing candida in your gastrointestinal tract has been known to manifest itself in many ways, the most obvious of which involve the actual digestion process. Symptoms like abdominal pain, gas and diarrhea could be signs of a candida flare up. Lactose intolerance may also signal a G.I. tract out of balance.

    Fatigue

    • People with candidiasis in their intestines tend to feel tired all the time. They're completely fatigued and feel as if they can barely get through the day. Your muscles will feel weakened and you might even experience pain in your bones or joints.

    Dry and Itchy Skin

    • Skin problems are often a sign of something wrong within the body, and the development of dermatitis, Psoriasis or other rashes can be signals of the presence of candida in your gut. Skin will feel dry and itchy, with rectal itching being one of the biggest complaints of candida sufferers. You may also notice dandruff. Facial rashes are common and even hives have been known to pop up.

    Sinus Pain or Congestion

    • People with yeast in their intestines can also suffer from allergy symptoms like itchy and watery eyes, sneezing and nasal congestion. Sinus pressure and sinusitis could also develop. In general, your body reacts as though it's irritated by a foreign when candida has taken up residence in your gut, so heightened allergic reactions are common.

    Psychological Problems

    • Many people that are eventually diagnosed with gastrointestinal candidiasis have reported psychological symptoms as well such as anxiety, an inability to sit still, panic attacks, ADD and even OCD. All of these conditions are anxiety-based, and though the connection between candida and anxiety has not been determined this does appear to be a very real symptom of a yeast flare up.

Noticeable Worsening of Symptoms After Eating Sugar

    • If you notice that you have a really bad stomach ache after eating sugary foods, get headaches or suffer from diarrhea, you might have a candida problem. Actually, this "sugar test" is used to determine if one has candida in their intestinal tract, so noticing it on your own is a good sign that you might need to see your doctor. Keep in mind that all of the above symptoms could be related to different conditions. However, it is when they are experienced in conjunction with one another, that the red flags that you might have a yeast in your intestines should be raised.
