About Dryer Heat Vents
Dryer heat vents attach to the dryer in order to release the heat that builds up inside the machine. If your dryer vent is clogged, your machine won't work properly and more energy will be wasted trying to dry your clothing. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Function
-
A dryer heat vent will release heat and moisture that has built up while the dryer is running. The vent will lead outside of the home in order to prevent moisture from developing in the air and causing problems, such as mold and mildew growth.
Significance
-
If you need to replace the dryer heat vent, prepare the area first by unplugging the dryer and moving it away from the wall. If it's a gas-powered dryer, turn off the gas line. To remove the old dryer heat vent tubing, loosen the clamps and pull it away from the exhaust hood. You should clean out the exhaust hood before you make the new install.
-
Solution
-
In order to install a dryer heat vent, attach the vent tubing to the exhaust hood of your dryer. Each piece of vent tubing will slide easily together in order to connect in a line until you reach the exhaust hood. Use foil tape to seal the joints of the vent tubing. Once all of the pieces are in place, you can use pipe strapping and 1-inch nails to secure the line in place.
Considerations
-
Check for leaks after you install the vent tubing. To do this, turn on the dryer and then run your hands over the tubing to check for any air being released. Use foil tape to seal any additional leaks from the dryer heat vents.
Warning
-
Most housing codes forbid the use of vinyl tubing for the new installation of dryer heat vents. This is due to fact that dryer heat vents made of this material are a fire hazard.
